I was sitting in my office before leaving for Los Angeles today and looked up at this beautiful collage that was given to us at the banquet. So many lives that we have been blessed with over the past 17 years. It will always serve as a reminder of the gift of the Pet Prescription Team organization.
Volunteers... It has been brought to my attention there have been volunteers certified by other organizations and visiting as both a Pet Prescription Team member and also representing the another therapy organization. What made this even more troubling is they were visiting in facilities we visit causing a nightmare in who's insurance would they be covered under. These volunteers have been terminated from the Pet Prescription Team organization but it serves as a reminder to all the volunteers of this organization. Please read the information below that was included in the termination letters to those members and may it serve as a reminder that each of you have a copy of the Policy and Procedure manuals that state this information. No dog or volunteer will simultaneously be registered by more than one therapy organization while certified as a member of the Pet Prescription Team. To do so is a direct violation of the Pet Prescription Team Policy and Procedures which states; “ NOTE: While it may be acceptable and encouraged by other therapy organizations to be active in more than one pet therapy organization, it is not permitted by the Pet Prescription Team to be certified by any other organization while certified through the Pet Prescription Team. We also do not allow visitations at a location on behalf of two or more organizations simultaneously on the same day while in training as well as once certified through the Pet Prescription Team organization. Furthermore, no member of the Pet Prescription Team can be a member of any other therapy organization while certified through the Pet Prescription Team organization. Unfortunately, due to the liability insurance reasons, the member must decide which therapy pet organization they will be a member of and certified through. We request that the Pet Prescription Team Members wear their Team shirt and badge and their pets wear the Pet Prescription Team vest when visiting a facility for validation of who the represent and for insurance reasons.’’( Pg 11 Pet Prescription Team Policy & Procedure Manual) The Pet Prescription Team is not the only organization that holds this policy.TDI does not allow its members to be registered with any other Therapy Dog organization.Pet Partners handlers may not be concurrently registered with another therapy animal organization that provides a similar program. As well as: Love on A Leash, Alliance, Bright & Beautiful And the list goes on. Because we are limited to the supervision of a specific number of volunteers, if this violation is discovered you will be terminated as a member from our volunteer program because of violation of stated policy.
