Big Round-Up Update

Today, as we continue our Big Roundup, we want to introduce you to someone who represents the heart of the Pet Prescription Team.

Meet Angie.

Angie found Pet Prescription Team in 2016 after she and her dog, Cody, had been disappointed and rejected by several other therapy dog programs. Cody was only four years old when Angie was told he was too energetic and too spirited to ever become a therapy dog.

And then she found us.

Angie remembers that very first conversation because instead of hearing what Cody couldn’t do, she felt something entirely different: hope, acceptance, and the feeling that maybe they had finally found a place where they belonged.

They had.

Cody became Angie’s first certified therapy dog, eventually paving the way for Latte and, most recently, Pepper.

But Angie didn’t stop at simply becoming a therapy dog volunteer.

Over the years, she stepped forward and became one of our Pet Prescription Team leaders.

Our leaders play an incredibly important role within our organization. As Pet Prescription Team has grown, we have always wanted to make sure our volunteers never become just another name on a roster or feel as though they have been trained, certified, and then left on their own.

Our leaders help guide volunteers at their facilities, answer questions, welcome new teams, offer encouragement and support, and make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Angie took that responsibility to heart and has served as a leader at numerous facilities throughout the years.

And when you ask Angie why she continues doing this work, her answer says everything.

She has watched a child’s face light up with laughter after a difficult surgery. She has seen seniors tear up while remembering beloved pets from years ago. She has quietly sat beside people who simply needed someone there. She has watched an anxious or agitated resident begin to settle because a dog calmly rested beside them.

Sometimes therapy dog work looks like laughter. Sometimes it looks like tears. And sometimes it is simply a dog, a volunteer, and another human being sharing a quiet moment.

Angie says she believes every dog is born with a unique purpose. Cody, Latte, and Pepper have certainly lived theirs, while teaching her lessons about comfort, joy, belonging, and unconditional love along the way.

And Angie has lived out her purpose right beside them.

This is what your support of our Big Roundup makes possible.

You aren’t simply supporting an organization. You are helping us train, support, and encourage volunteers like Angie. You are helping us send therapy dog teams into hospitals, senior communities, schools, correctional facilities, and so many other places where someone may desperately need a little hope, comfort, or connection.

For more than two decades, Pet Prescription Team has been Healing Hearts Through Pets.

And people like Angie are the reason that mission continues.

Thank you, Angie, Cody, Latte, and Pepper, for being such an important part of the Pet Prescription Team family and for all the lives you have touched along the way.

If Pet Prescription Team and the work our volunteers do means something to you, please consider supporting our Big Roundup. Every gift, no matter the amount, helps us continue sending these remarkable teams where they are needed most.

Please take a moment today and share Angie's story and our efforts.
